You should stop smoking now. If you do, you will greatly reduce the health risks related to smoking. You will also be seeing an improvement in your breathing. If you are a teenager, you should quit because your performance in school and sports will be greatly improved. Nicotine impairs brain function and makes it more difficult to learn. How can you excel at sports if you are having difficulty breathing? The best way to stop smoking is just to never start.

First, you should know about smoking and what it can do to you. If you smoke some physical effects that could happen to you are that your teeth will turn yellow, your hair will be greasy, you will have horrible breath, and your fingers will be stained from tobacco. Some more serious side effects are that smoking weakens your bones, and this can cause you to develop a disease called osteoporosis. It can also cause heart attacks, strokes, causes cancers of digestive organs. Smoking can actually impair your ability to smell, to hear, and to taste. Did you know that cigarette smoking is the leading preventable cause of visual disorders and blindness in the United States?

Next, you need to see the benefits of non-smoking. Within twenty minutes of stopping smoking, your blood pressure and pulse rate decrease, and the body temperature of your hands and feet increase. In eight hours, the carbon monoxide level in your body will drop down to almost normal. In twenty-four, hours the risk of having a heart attack decreases. Between two weeks and three months, your circulation improves, walking becomes easier and you donít cough or wheeze as often. Within several months, you have significant improvement in lung function. In one year risk of a coronary heart disease and heart attack are reduced to half of a smokerís. Between five and fifteen years, the risk of having a stroke drops to the level of a non-smoker. In fifteen years, your risk of coronary heart disease and heart attack in similar to that of people who have never smoked. The risk of death returns to nearly the level of a non-smoker.

Lastly, you need to know how to stop smoking. The reason you canít is because of one thing, Nicotine. I think the best way to quit is Nicorette medicated gum. This allows you to decrease your nicotine intake in small steps. It is a weekly plan. For the first week you are given a higher dose of nicotine. Then you are given a lower dose each week until you are taking close to nothing. On the last week, your body craves less nicotine resulting in not having to smoke. Also you can see your doctor, and he/she can prescribe medication to help you to quit smoking.

In conclusion, if this helps one person to quit smoking, my mission will be accomplished. Quitting smoking saves lives. One in two people who are regular smokers will die of smoke related deaths therefore, please try to quit so that you are not one of them. Iíve pointed out to you all the consequences of smoking, now it is up to you.
