On the grounds of Bloorís Academy sits an ancient castle that once housed the mysterious figure known as the Red King.  Now many years in the future his descendents are still battling for control over the rest of the abnormally gifted or the endowed.  The problem in this chapter of the story is that Charlie is pulled into a painting of Badlock, where he finds his long lost relative the giant Otus.  As soon as Charlie finds a way out, Charlie feels compelled to rescue his ancestor from the clutches of the shadow of Badlock and set him free.  But trying this is a lot more complicated than it seemed, and when Billy goes missing, he realizes this may be his toughest challenge yet.

The main characters in Shadow of Badlock are Charlie Bone, Emma Tolly (can turn into a bird), Benjamin Brown (unendowed) Fidelio Gunn (musician), Billy Raven (can speak to animals), Tancred Torrison (storm bringer), Lysander Sage (can call his spirit ancestors), Gabriel Silk (can feel peoples thoughts through clothing) and Olivia Vertigo (Illusionist/actress).

Other books written by Jenny Nimmo include: Midnight for Charlie Bone, Charlie Bone and the Time Twister, Charlie Bone and the Blue Boa, Charlie Bona and the Castle of Mirrors, Charlie Bone and the Hidden King, Charlie Bone and the Wilderness Wolf, and now Charlie Bone and the Shadow of Badlock.  If you liked the Harry Potter series than you will like this book. Jenny Nimmo has also written the Snow Spider trilogy.

I think Charlie Bone and the Shadow of Badlock is a good book because Jenny Nimmo is able to make the characters grow and develop without skipping years to change a characterís personality.  It is also a good book because the author was able to weave a bit of mystery into this action-packed book.  My last reason is that the author has been able to bring new characters into the story without breaking the pace or flow of the series.

I give Charlie Bone and the Shadow of Badlock 5 stars out of five.
