Morning Magic
Elizabeth, Age 10, Monument, CO

Six o'clock, the alarm goes. I throw off my sheets and spring out of bed. I head over to the window and pull up the blinds. The sun is rising. The grass sparkles as the light splashes the dew.

"Get ready, get ready!" Mom calls from downstairs. I pick out a shirt and pull on some jeans. I tie up my sneakers and brush my teeth. I comb my hair and eat a glazed donut. I put a scrunchie in my hair and head out to wait for the bus.

It is six a.m. again. Once again time to wake up, and I smile, for the early morning magic is beginning again, soon to end but to repeat in 24 hours, again and again, and forever.
